Open Water Scuba Diver - Diving in open waters

Course description:
This course is intended to give students the necessary skills to conduct dives in open waters under conditions similar to their training without the direct observation of an instructor.

Preconditions:
1. The minimal age is 18 years old. From ages 10 to 17 parental consent is required.
2. Students aged 10 to 14 years old can take part in SDI Junior Open Water Scuba Diver, if the certain conditions are fulfilled: - the young students must be trained and dive under the direct observation of a parent, guardian or a professional diver with an active status. When an SDI Junior Open Water Diver reaches the age of 15, they can move on to SDI Open Water Scuba Diver.

What you can learn:
1. The aquatic environment: vision, light, sound, heat loss, tides, currents, waves, surge, etc.
2. Physics and physiology: buoyancy, pressure, air spaces, breathing compressed air, mixed gases, etc.
Dive equipment selection, assembly, use and maintenance
Dive planning
Basic scuba skills including mask and regulator skills, swimming underwater, buoyancy control, basic rescue techniques, and emergency procedures

What’s in it for you:
Upon successful completion of the SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course, graduates receive an international certificate which allows them to:
1. Conduct open water dives during the day in conditions similar to their training with maximum depth of 18 meters.
2. Continue their dive education by enrolling in Advanced Adventure Diver, individual SDI Specialties or SDI Advanced Diver.

Minimal requirements for receiving the certificate:
1. Demonstrating good knowledge concerning dive planning and execution of the dives.
2. Satisfactory completion of the theoretical exam - SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Knowledge Quest.
3. Completion of all open water practical tasks safely and efficiently.

Training and course structure:
1. Theoretical preparation - it is conducted during the entire course
2. Practical preparation:
- two exercises in a swimming pool or waters with appropriate conditions for learning the basic diving skills and work with the equipment.
- four training dives in open waters in depth up to 18 meters with the execution of exercises, necessary to cover the course requirements.
The minimal length of the course is three days (20 learning hours).
